WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT

During your first visit we’ll go through your health history in detail in order to get the whole picture. In addition to symptoms and any recent or chronic conditions, we’ll also ask about your lifestyle, diet, emotional health, injuries, allergies, and hormones.

We use a range of diagnostic tools to make an informed assessment of your health, including taking your pulse, looking at your tongue, palpating your abdomen or any areas of discomfort, and possible orthopedic testing. We’re happy to look at any additional information you bring in, such as diagnostic testing or blood work to make a comprehensive review of your history.

After assessing your condition and creating a treatment plan we invite you to get comfortable on the table and a few needles will be inserted, as well as any other therapies or modalities that are appropriate.

Once the treatment has begun and the needles are in, you will be led through a short guided relaxation meditation. Needles are typically retained for 15-30 minutes. Many patients relax or doze off during this time.

Once needles are removed treatment may conclude with other relevant modalities such as bodywork, cupping, gua sha, or moxa.

Follow up appointments follow a similar pattern, with less extensive review of your whole health history, and may combine shiatsu, consultation on diet or herbal medicine, suggestions for movement or meditation and things you can do beyond the treatment as well.
